Contra Costa executive Keith Freitas named to oversee Ventura County airports

Keith Freitas, 55, the airports director for Contra Costa County, was appointed late last week as Ventura County’s director following a national search. He will start as the top administrator at the county’s Department of Airports on Nov. 8 at a base salary of $192,211, officials said Friday.

Freitas is taking over a few months after former director Kip Turner suspended a master planning process for the airports for at least a year following an outcry from residents opposing expansion. Turner stalled the process in May, then resigned in July for what he said were personal reasons and his own doubts about whether he could lead the local airports effectively.
